Social Engagement

Social interaction is one of the basic human needs required to live a fulfilled life. It comes after the basic necessities of food, water, and safety. Our Sykee Support Workers understand how important this is. We train in conversational counselling techniques, to ensure that engagement is unconditionally supportive.

Social engagement activities may happen: 

  • In the comfort of your home

  • While going for a walk together

  • At school, university or work

  • Over-the-phone or video call

  • In one of your favourite community or natural settings

We will be there with you through every step. Engage socially while building your social confidence. We encourage you to feel more empowered in social situations.

It’s easy to lose track of what you want to do in life, in a world of distraction and disconnection. Our Sykee Support Worker can help you reconnect with your aspirations. They will help you guide you to your purpose, core values and personal goals.

Activities may include:

  • Settings Goals

  • Taking action

  • Learning

  • Improving

  • Making changes

Community Participation

Feelings of loneliness due to disconnect can cause distress to anyone. This may lead to challenges participating in the community.

Our Sykee Support Workers are here to help you get back into the community, at your pace. Along with the goal of restoring a sense of belonging and connectedness to society. They will suggest and coordinate activities to keep you active and connected in the community.

All activities are designed based on your choice. 

Activities such as: 

  • Browsing and shopping

  • Lunch meetings

  • Volunteering

  • Sporting events

  • Grass-root community events

  • Community based hobbies and interests

We know how important your daily routines are. Our Sykee Support Workers are here to help prompt and assist you to complete your morning and evening routines, the way you’re comfortable.

Routines may include:

  • Hygiene

  • Nutrition intake

  • Exercise

  • Household tasks

Sykee Support can be very helpful when it comes to getting around, out and about.

We can support you to:

  • Teach life skills, such as budgeting and paying bills

  • Maintain house tenancy

  • Assist in learning and building new useful skills of your choice

  • Finding new recipes and cooking

Mentoring

A lot of people have been able to achieve further than they ever thought possible. All it takes is someone else to believe in them, or someone was there to encourage them to take the first step.

You can trust your Sykee Support Worker to be a positive role model. Someone that you can look up to, socialise with, ask questions, and be guided by.

Therapy Assistance

Assist the progression of your short and long term therapeutic goals. We also offer social skill coaching, community re-engagement and participation, and motivation coaching.

We make sure:

  • You utilise social intervention; but also therapeutic intervention

  • To accompany you while you partake in the therapy

  • Actively engage and connect with your support network. Sykee Support Work, Sykee Psychotherapists and / or third party Psychotherapists. This ensures connectivity, continuity, and effectiveness of therapy.

 

End of Life Companionship

Living with dementia or having to care for someone living with dementia can lead to a range of challenging experiences. We are here to let you know that you are not alone. Sykee Support offers companionship. A confidential, professional support for individuals at all stages of dementia, or age related condition. Sykee offers end of life social companionship; to listen to your stories, protect your wellbeing, and to provide you company.

We can help you with: 

  • Keeping a sense of structure and familiarity

  • Helping to cope with changes - Appearance, behaviour, and personality

  • Assistance to do the activities to stimulate different senses 

  • Spending time outdoors

  • Assisting with group activities
